Meeting Individual Needs

Gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals experience the same difficulties in life as heterosexual individuals. Sexual orientation does not affect a person's mental health. Regardless of sexual orientation, many people benefit from professional help when dealing with difficult issues such as:

bulletDepression
bulletAnxiety
bulletRelationships
bulletStress
bulletGrief
bulletSubstance Abuse
bulletSelf-Esteem

In addition to the above concerns, there are a few issues that are more specific to gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals. While not all homosexual people will have these concerns, they are not uncommon:

bulletClarifying feelings about sexual orientation
bulletComing out
bulletDealing with prejudice

It is important to emphasize that it is normal and healthy to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual. At Novo Counseling, we have experience working with members of the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community. We are members of the American Counseling Association with division membership in the Association for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues in Counseling. We embrace diversity, working with each individual from his or her unique perspective.
